The Director of Finance is responsible for managing the entire financial reporting, budget/ forecast, tax and treasury processes within the company. It collaborates with other functional areas of the company and the group to ensure effective financial reporting and compliance with all financial regulations and procedures. This is a management position that is acquired through years of experience in other financial and accounting positions. The role requires being comfortable performing in a rapidly evolving industry and environment and dealing with ambiguity.

 

Role and Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Preparing consolidated financial statements on time, including supporting schedules and narratives for analysis of monthly and year end results in accordance with IFRS;
  • Completing consolidation and translation files;
  • Preparing financial analysis of various balance sheet and income statement accounts;
  • Performing monthly variance analysis of operating and corporate costs compared with quarterly forecasts and the quarterly and annual budget and business plan;
  • Supervise the daily accounting for mining activities and accounts payable;
  • Overseeing with the annual budget and quarterly forecast process;
  • Preparing for the year-end audit planning and liaising with the auditors, if required;
  • Dealing with accounting issues including accounting for international acquisitions, licensing transactions, stock-based compensation, translations and consolidations;
  • Reconciling sales tax and VAT accounts and submitting statutory filings;
  • Assisting tax consultants on income tax filings;
  • Oversight of the finance involvement in large capital projects, including facility development;
  • Monitor internal controls and risk management, including insurance where appropriate, to ensure that activities are in accordance with established regulatory and Company policies and procedures of the Company;
  • Working with group companies to ensure cooperation and the efficient use of resources;
  • Ensure accounting staff are engaged and trained appropriately;
  • Ensure all accounting work encompasses the accounting principles as outlined in the Conceptual Framework for Financial Reporting;
  • Work with the Human Capital group to ensure there are sufficient controls surrounding payroll and that it is conducted in a timely and accurate manner;
  • Act as authorized signature for banking, wallets and other related tasks;
  • Reporting on budget or cash flow as requested;
  • Work with group companies to ensure optimal financial structure and benefits;
  • Responsible for ensuring training and overseeing the duties of our foreign jurisdictions regarding all Company accounting requirements;
  • Ensure skills and knowledge remain current;
  • Working with IFRS consultants on complex accounting issues; and
  • Any other duties assigned by the CEO.

 

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • CA/ CPA designation required
  • 7-15 years of progressive experience in a senior finance role
  • Strong Excel skills
  • Sage Intact accounting software experience beneficial
