The Bitcoin Vision – Episode 18

In this week’s episode of The Bitcoin Vision, Bitcoin Association Founding President Jimmy Nguyen for your dose of the latest developments in the Bitcoin SV space. This week, we’ll look at: UptimeSV, BSV/DEVS, MetaWriter and Metanet Planaria, and Bitcoin Wallet Workshop.


To kick off Bitcoin Association’s first-ever Chinese-language BitcoinSV conference, China Manager, Lise Li took to the virtual stage to give the opening remarks ahead of the action-packed two days of BSV DevCon.

BSV DevCon China is our very first Developer conference, comprised of discussions, and practical demos of solutions built on top of Bitcoin SV. As a result, each talk is in Chinese with English subtitles.


Centered around ‘Envisioning Islamic FinTechFuture,’ Islamic Fintech Week brought together experts from the financial, tech, regulatory, and blockchain industries to discuss the future of Fintech in the Islamic world.

Taking the virtual stage for a keynote speech was Bitcoin Association Ambassador for Malaysia, Masumi Hamahira, who took the time to lay out the unique origins and infrastructure of the Bitcoin SV blockchain. Hamahira also explained how Bitcoin SV is uniquely designed to fulfill the evolving requirements of Fintech, especially for the Islamic world.


Leaving a ledger of transactions, contracts and laws have been commonplace throughout human history, but have been subject to destruction, loss, and lack of validity. Blockchains like Bitcoin SV enable the creation, storage and transaction of information without these risks.

Taking the virtual stage for Bitcoin SV Devcon was the Curriculum Specialist for Bitcoin Association, Evan Freeman, who delved into the infrastructure of Bitcoin, how the transactions within it comprise a long, immutable ledger of information, while dispelling some of the common misconceptions about ledgers and nodes on Bitcoin SV.


With nearly 1,000 registrations to day 2, BSV DEVCON opened up to presentations and talks by inspired developers and pioneers already making use of Bitcoin SV for their projects.

During Bitcoin SV Devcon, developers from the likes of sCrypt, RUN, HandCash, and Planaria Corp showcased their next-generation solutions, to help revolutionize industries worldwide while fostering a climate of collaboration between projects on BSV.


On day 1 of Bitcoin SV DevCon, leaders and innovators from across the Bitcoin SV ecosystem took the virtual stage to showcase the unbounded potential of the Bitcoin SV blockchain in creating next-generation applications.

Industry leaders from Bitcoin Association and nChain, such as Bitcoin Association Founding President, Jimmy Nguyen, nChain CTO Steve Shadders, and nChain Chief Scientist, Dr. Craig S.Wright, shared their insights about what sets the blockchain apart, and how it can innovate industries across the world.


Bitcoin Association was an active and proud part of CoinGeek London 2020, bringing together developers and entrepreneurs from across the Bitcoin SV ecosystem. On day 1, developers came together to showcase their applications for an exciting series of presentations during the BSV Venture Pitch Day. Day 2 brought BA Ambassadors from across the globe to discuss the latest developments from and future of the BSV ecosystem.  


Glenn Wolfe of Planaria takes us through the TXT platform, and the methodologies it uses for effectively storing, organizing, and managing Bitcoin transactions using semantic metadata.


Josh Henslee took the virtual stage during BSV DevCon to discuss the practicalities of planning and getting your business started on top of Bitcoin SV.

Throughout, Henslee discusses methods of generating revenue, the unique environment of ‘co-opetition,’ micropayments, and common do’s and don’t to keep in mind.


While payments are integral in understanding Bitcoin, there’s more to it than just transactions.

Rafa Jimenez, the CTO of HandCash, discusses the importance of solutions like HandCash Connect in providing greater access to micropayments, and how it addresses the challenges that come with implementation.


When it comes to Bitcoin SV, it’s more than just developing from scratch, it’s about developing on top of what already exists.

During this panel discussion, Brendan Lee – Bitcoin Association’s Training & Development Manager, James Belding – CEO and Co-Founder of Tokenized, Shashank Singhal – CEO and Co-Founder of Codugh, and Ryan X.Charles – Founder and CEO of MoneyButton, discuss their solutions, and how to make your services a success on top of BSV.


Attila Aros, CEO of MatterCloud, CTO of MatterPool and Bitcoin Association Ambassador to Panama, takes the time to sit down with Bitcoin Association to discuss the role his businesses play in the Bitcoin SV ecosystem and his bold vision for a future built on the blockchain.


Xiaohui Liu, CEO of sCrypt, takes the (virtual) stage to lead a session introducing sCrypt, a platform that provides developers a streamlined way to create and implement smart contract solutions on the Bitcoin SV network.


nChain CTO Steve Shadders gives the closing remarks for BSV DevCon 2020, summarizing the weekend’s key points and discussing Bitcoin Association’s upcoming #BitcoinSV developer education initiatives.


One of the first practical sessions of BSV Devcon Online, nChain’s Steve Shadders walks us through Script Hacking for fun and Profit, and the utility of Intermediate Bitcoin script.


Bitcoin Association interviews Lin Zheming,  founder and CEO of Mempool and DotWallet, as well as a Bitcoin Association Ambassador to China. Lin discusses Dot Wallet and the strides it’s making in reducing the barriers to Bitcoin for everyday people, as well as his vision for an economy backed by Bitcoin.


Dr. Craig Wright sits down with Chain CTO Steve Shadders for a fireside chat, covering the need for sharp code for making a financial system and digital world work, and how BitcoinSV allows businesses to scale within a risk-averse blockchain solution.


In his presentation, nChain Research and Development Software Engineer Jad Wahab talked about Merchant API, a new tools for the BSV network. MAPI is an interface to the nodes, allowing the users to find out in advance what fees are necessary for a certain service.


Bitcoin Association catches up with Ryan X. Charles, founder and CEO of Bitcoin SV payments application Money Button, and a Bitcoin Association Ambassador to the USA. A well-known entrepreneur in the Bitcoin SV space, Darren Kellenschwiler presented his latest creation Baemail, at BSV Venture Pitch Day London. Baemail – which stands for before anything else mail – uses Bitcoin SV to solve the problem of spam emails by including a micropayment paid for by the sender, paid upon the recipient opening and reading the email.

The innovation impressed the investors, with Kellenschwiler and Baemail going on to appear on the CoinGeek London main stage later that week.

In his presentation, nChain Chief Scientist Dr. Craig Wright shared with the members of the Metanet Society of University of Cambridge his motivations and debunked some myths related to Bitcoin.


In this presentation, Bitcoin Association Founding President Jimmy Nguyen shared that with Bitcoin SV, users can utilize the Bitcoin blockchain for smart contracts, tokens, decentralized apps, Metanet, microtransactions, and even artificial intelligence. This is due to BSV’s ability to massively scale.

The Bitcoin Association, represented by Founding President Jimmy Nguyen, and nChain Chief Scientist Dr. Craig Wright, went on its first China Bitcoin SV Road Trip in December.

The trip included a visit to Tsinghua University, where the first BSV conference held in Beijing, and panels at T-EDGE, China’s most influential tech conference. The purpose of the visit was to speak directly with talented Chinese BSV blockchain developers and inspire them to build a better world with Bitcoin.


In this panel, Miles Benham from MannBenham Advocates Limited Lyle Wraxall of Digital Isle of Man and Harmen Brenninkmeijer of Quanta Plc discuss the developments of incorporating blockchain in the iGaming sector. Bitcoin Association Founding President Jimmy Nguyen is the facilitator of the panel discussion.


Bitcoin Association Founding President Jimmy Nguyen leads a discussion on how Bitcoin SV can put an end to extortionate fees being asked by payment service providers from iGaming operators. Eduardo Aguilera from The Coingaming Group and George Payne from GatePay join the panel.


In this presentation, nChain Chief Scientist Dr. Craig Wright talked about the history of Bitcoin and hashing. He also said that blockchain will improve governance: “It’s a disruptive technology. But it’s not ever going to destroy the government.”


In this panel, Alex Antsyferov of TruePlay, Chloe Tartan of nChain, and Michael Lee of Genesis discuss how tokenized assets can be implemented to mitigate excess costs and streamline processes for iGaming operators.


In his presentation, Henry Dekoeyer shares how Spatialbitcoin can address problems in the geospatial industry with Bitcoin SV. The project will also explore how users can create value for their GPS data.


Twetch CMO and Co-Founder Billy Rose shares how the idea for the app started and what it means to design for Bitcoin without compromising experience.


Bitcoin Association Founding President Jimmy Nguyen was the keynote speaker at the International Association of Defense Counsel’s International Corporate Counsel College, an event that brought together lawyers from all over the world to discuss emerging issues in the global legal space.

nChain researcher Alex Mackay told the crowd who attended the London BSV Meetup that Miner ID would become increasingly central. “As we scale BSV and blocks get bigger, there will be a shift in the ratio of fees miners incur — from block rewards to transaction fees. Sometime in the future, mining subsidies will run out, and miners will have to support themselves through mining fees,” Alex Mackay said.


Joe Dalais, in his presentation during the London BSV Meetup emphasized the need of having identity on-chain. For example, Joe Dalais said a sale receipt stored on-chain and linked to an individual identity would provide certainty for retailers over the legitimacy of returns.


nChain CTO Steve Shadders told the attendees of the London BSV Meetup that the Quasar upgrade “represents a shift in the way bitcoin governance works.” Steve Shadders said while the upgrade to a 2GB block size was four times the originally envisaged size, he suggested the block limit would allow essential flexibility for developers.

Why Mine Bitcoin SV?

The Quasar protocol upgrade last July 24 was focused on Bitcoin SV’s goal of massive scaling as it lifted the default block size hard cap from its current 128MB to 2GB. In this video, the Bitcoin Association presents the case why the Quasar protocol upgrade is beneficial to miners.
